Where we are Going
Does Tulsa really need to build another church? We have a surprise for you…
Meet the Pastor
I am Rev. Heather Scherer and this is my first church as the lead pastor. I have to admit to being excited and terrified on any given day at the prospect of creating something completely new. I have loved working in student ministry for most of my career and found youth ministry very fulfilling. I went to Southern Methodist University on a basketball scholarship. I was an All American and All State athlete. I grew up surrounded by generations of my family all attending First UMC Okmulgee and then eating lunch together at grandma’s house. I have a passion for missions and hospitality. I have been blessed with a very patient husband, Jon, and three beautiful children.
Our vision for Living Water UMC is a community of acceptance and love. Jesus’ willingness to be with all people and his radical commandments to love God and neighbor guide us in our ministry. We recognize that all people are beautiful creations by God and that we all have value. With that in mind, we provide Guardian Angels for children with non-typical learning styles and a certified signer at every worship service. We strive to be a place of courageous conversation, meaningful worship and faith formation. Our church is not a building but a people with hearts for transforming lives and “being” the church. We are messy people doing holy work.
What We Believe
We believe thaat our creator has always and will always desire to be in relationship with us. We believe God has demonstrated in radical ways a faithfulness to us that is undeserved and life transforming. We celebrate the example that Jesus gives us to live a life of meaning and purpose with a challenge to offer hope to others. We believe the Bible holds the truths of God and that we continue to discover God in every day. We recognize that our ability to know God is limited but our hearts can overflow with the joy that comes from constantly striving to know more.
We give you thanks for helping us bring the vision to life!

Small Groups: Small groups are gatherings of people to share, grow and connect with others who are seeking a life with purpose and passion. We encourage you to come check us out. We have just finished a group and plan on starting more in January. Please email Pastor Heather what kind of group you would like to participate in! (Bible study, book club, social, cooking, support, sports, etc.)
Ripple Outreach Ministry: We volunteer to help provide food to students in the Glenpool school system who would be hungry on the weekends, helping with community events that change lives, serving at Manna Days with St. Paul UMC, sponsoring students to attend camps and work project camps and more. On September 16th we baked and made goodies to thank and honor our first responders. We delivered to the Glenpool, Jenks and Sapulpa Fire, Police, and EMS. In October we packed 90 food bags to go home with Glenpool students who typically go hungry on the weekend. For November we gathered Toys for Tots and served drinks and hot chocolate to the riders in the Glenpool Christmas parade. In December, we gave blankets to the Day Center for the Homeless and made sandwiches for them as well. Send Pastor Heather an email if you would like to do life transforming outreach with us! email@example.com
Spiritual Growth happens through our Worship services and Dive groups on Sunday mornings at 10 & 11. We will begin these services once a month starting in January. Worship is not labeled as one style or another. We might sing a hymn or Bob Marley “One Love” on the same Sunday. We strive to be relevant, inspiring and refreshing in every service. Communion will be served every month. We are using guest musicians each service until we launch in August 2013. If you would like to sing or play, please email Pastor Heather and see if there is a date open. We hope to someday build a prayer garden quiet space and labryinth when we have our own property. Our first worship service was on Christmas Eve at 7pm at the Chapel at Camp Loughridge. We will be meeting on first Sundays now. See the Services page for more information!
Dive groups gather after worship to go deeper in discussion and Bible study. Often the topic will be over the scripture from that Sunday’s worship service. We nurture an enviornment of hospitality recognizing that we will never all agree but we can have conversations saturated in love. These begin in January as well.
Vision For The Future
We hope that as we continue to grow, others will find our vision of transforming lives compelling. The need for property is a reality and is estimated to be a million dollars for ten acres in our area. What is different about this you ask? When we build, we would like to build a ministry center that is not just a worship auditorium and classrooms. Our vision is for a property that is a tornado shelter for our neighbors and a rescue station in times of disaster. We hope to house rooms for tutoring, food distribution and even clothing. That is the surprise! It is a vision for a new kind of church-a missional church built to meet the needs of the community.
Until that time where we have a ministry center, we are opening a Coffee Shop in a retail strip on 141st Street. We will offer community building and great coffee and food! We hope to have classes like Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace, English as a Second Language, and a Support Group for Veterans. Our coffee shop will be a safe place for people to hang with Lifetree Conversations about current events, live music on weekends and open mic night for our community storytellers and poets.
We recognize that spiritual renewal is a desperate need in our culture, and ways to connect with God will always be a part of everything we do. Yes, we will worship in our new space but it will be only one of the many ways we hope to transform lives.
Maybe someday we can multiply our vision into multiple locations serving many people in real ways!
If you would like to contribute to this vision, please go to our GIVE page and make a contribution. If your church would like to help us plant our church, Pastor Heather would love to come visit with you about ways to do that. Please see our Partnership Letter and the Baby Shower list for current and future needs.
