Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year.  It is the moment we pause to breath deeply the presence of family and being thankful for all we already have.  I have never understood people that turn this sacred weekend into a shopping frenzy for things we really don’t need.  In our desire to accumulate more, we forget to recognize how blessed we are.  I know Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday on the Christian calendar of holy days but, like everyday, it can be holy.  It is all just a matter of the way we see it.

My family is scattered this year so it will be unusual as our holiday.  My daughter is with her in-laws visiting family.  My parents are hosting over 200 people in their church and feeding them a Thanksgiving feast.  The grand babies and our oldest are staying in Texas and we are spending the day with my mother-in-law and her very ill husband.  But we are blessed.  We are blessed to have so many people to love.  Our hearts are full with the possibilities of each of them.  We all have shelter, food and warmth.  Our youngest will sit at the table and we will have three generations of family together.  Simple things.  Simple needs and hopes and dreams are the thing that all people have in common.

On this day, I give thanks for the beautiful diversity of people that I have known.  I hope that as the world moves forward that this day can be a reminder that we all have more in common then not.  I pray that those who are traveling stay safe and that meals with friends and family can be sacred.  Happy thanksgiving to you and yours!Facebooktwitterby feather
